Elderly couple pass away at house fire in Worsley

Incident Date: 24 November 2018

FIREFIGHTERS have spent the early hours of this morning tackling a house fire which has claimed the lives of two elderly occupants.

Four fire engines were mobilised to Edge Fold Crescent, Worsley, at 03:46 on November 24 and on arrival crews discovered a severe first floor fire in a semi-detached property.

An elderly couple were rescued by firefighters but sadly passed away.

Ben Levy, Area Manager for Salford and Trafford said: “It’s a tragic incident and first and foremost our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved.

"Crews worked in difficult conditions alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service but despite best efforts were unable to save the couple.

"It’s too early to determine a cause and fire investigators will be working closely with the police to find out what happened.

"At this stage there is nothing which suggests suspicious activity and we are treating the incident as an accident. Again, our hearts go out to the families and neighbours who are waking up to news of this terrible loss.”

Checks have been carried out in adjacent properties which have been deemed safe.

The fire is under control but crews remain at the scene.
