Listen out

  • Trams can be much quieter than other vehicles. You may not be able to hear a Metrolink tram until it's very close.

  • A tram will sound their whistle or horn to warn you that they are nearby or are setting off, so be vigilant and listen out for them.

  • Trams are not required to stop for pedestrians, so be aware.

  • Trams operate with their own system, so might not stop, if there is a red traffic light nearby.

Crossing tram lines

  • Look both ways before crossing any tram track.

  • Designated crossing points are available to use.

  • Adhere to all signage and ground markings.

  • Remember that trams are wider than their tracks and take longer to stop than you might think. Give them plenty of room.

  • Hold items securely and make sure your personal items such as dog leads, bags, scarves, headphones are securely held, so they do not get caught by a passing tram or caught in the tram tracks.

  • Keep an eye on your family, holding hands and ensuring small children and pets are crossing safely.

Getting on and off the tram

  • Always stand behind the tactile paving, unless you are getting on and off the tram.

  • Once the door chimes sound and the doors start to close, the driver cannot stop them. Please do not attempt to board or stick items in the door. This can pose a serious risk and you may get hurt or damage the tram.
