Number of flood-related calls received in Greater Manchester

SINCE around 11.30am today (July 31) a number of weather related flood calls have been taken by North West Fire Control, including around 45 for Greater Manchester.

Most of the callers were given advice by control operators, with firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attending a small number of incidents where vehicles were trapped in flood water and where basements were flooded and electrics affected.

Some incidents GMFRS firefighters have attended are:

12.47pm, Stockport Road, Timperley – basement of commercial property flooded. Firefighters isolated electrics and pumped out water.

1.18pm, Hermitage Road, Hale – firefighters isolated electrics and pumped out water from basement of domestic property.

3.31pm, Crossley Road, Manchester – two vehicles were partially submerged in flood-water. Firefighters helped to remove one of the vehicles from the water and assisted an elderly man from the water.

During heavy rain we ask that people take extra care if travelling and never drive into flood-water if unsure how deep it is.

Please only call 999 in an emergency.
