Carrington paper fire – April 12 2019

On Friday 12 April Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) received a call to a fire involving, initially, two large stacks of paper in a handling yard in Carrington.

At around 3pm the incident had developed to four large stacks of paper on fire in the yard. Over fifty firefighters attended the incident along with two aerial appliances and a high volume pump.

Crews did fantastic work to contain the fire and have worked tirelessly over the weekend to ensure that the fire doesn’t develop any further.

The incident is still ongoing, members of the public are urged to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution, although there is no harm to local resident’s health.
