Become a volunteer

We're delighted to have so many people interested in volunteering with us. If you'd like to join us as a volunteer, you can apply below.

Apply to become a GMFRS volunteer (Microsoft Form)

Your application will be used to assess your skills, knowledge, experience and availability, and identify if you are an ideal candidate to volunteer with GMFRS.

If you are successful, will invite you to a group assessment session (held periodically throughout the year) where we can learn more about you and your ability to work with others and clearly communicate safety information and advice.

Due to the volume of interest in volunteering with GMFRS, if you are not successful on this occasion, we will offer to keep you on our recruitment list and invite you to support some events which do not require specific training.

Our volunteers provide vital support to our service, helping us with operational training, prevention education and the delivery of our health and wellbeing strategy among other activities. In the year ending 31 March 2023, volunteers contributed 3,072 hours of their time to our service,

To ensure our volunteering roles are purposeful and meaningful, we have recently developed our new Volunteer Strategy. The strategy supports us with the delivery of our Annual Delivery Plan and the six priorities detailed in our Fire Plan.
