As part of the selection process, you may be asked to take part in the following assessments:
- Structured Interview – A values and competency-based interview
- Role Play Assessment – Evaluating how you respond in various scenarios
- Presentation – Delivering information clearly and effectively
- Group Exercise – Demonstrating teamwork and problem-solving skills
Functional Skills Assessment
You will also complete a Maths and English assessment, now as the Functional Skills Test. The required minimum pass level for both assessments is Level 2.
All new apprentices will be required to have already achieved their Level 2 qualifications in Maths and English or achieve a Level 2 at the initial assessments in the recruitment process.
We have support in place, for candidates who do not currently have their qualifications, with The Growth Company. They offer Functional Skills courses to achieve your Level 1 and 2 Maths and English ahead of your apprenticeship/applying for the role. The courses are fully funded through the Adult Education Budget/GMCA and are of no cost to you if you fit their eligibility criteria, which is:
- 19 years old and above
- Have a Greater Manchester postcode
- Lived in the UK for 3+ years
- Do not already have your Functional Skills Level 1 or 2 qualifications.
The courses are all delivered using Teams and are delivered one at a time due to the commitment needed. This means you would be unable to do both Maths and English courses at the same time. Each course is 17 weeks. For more information please visit The Growth Company website (external website) or contact the team by email at Joinus@manchesterfire.gov.uk for contact information.
