Stockport Community Fire Station - New Build
Proposed façade of the station:
As we continue to invest in what matters most to us – our people, our communities, and our future – GMFRS is having a series of brand-new community fire stations built in the coming years.
After a public consultation in Spring 2023 to make sure plans were developed in tune with the needs of the local community, the third of the new stations, which forms part of GMFRS's 16-year Estates Improvement Programme, will be in Stockport.
The new station will include sustainable heating and lighting systems to support Greater Manchester's target to become a carbon neutral city-region by 2038. By developing our estates, we are investing in our people, our communities and our future.
GMFRS's firefighters from Stockport will be based at Whitehill Community Fire Station while the works take place. Firefighters will continue their usual duties in and around Stockport’s station area, including prevention activities, school visits and training, with no reduction in the amount of fire engines or firefighters in the area during the rebuild process.
We are confident that we will continue to provide our excellent emergency response both within the immediate area around Stockport’s King Street West fire station, and across the wider borough of Stockport.
The new station in Stockport is expected to be complete by September 2026 with progress of the new station to be shared on our social media channels.
