Littleborough Community Fire Station refurbishment and extension

Littleborough Community Fire Station re-opening

  • Littleborough Community Fire Station reopens following £1.3m refurbishment and extension
  • Improvements are part of £38m investment programme across Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service estate
  • Mayor, Chief Fire Officer, local representatives and school pupils attend reopening

[Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham]

It is great to be here today at Littleborough Community Fire Station for the official reopening after the refurbishment and my goodness, what a brilliant job they have done.

There was a doubt about this fire station if we go back 10 years or so ago, but the community has really rallied around it, and it is now the model of a community fire station. There is so much going on here, there is an allotment out the back, there are school kids who have been involved in developing artwork for the walls. It is fantastic. And what I am proud of, we are giving the best facilities to our firefighters and that is exactly what we should be doing. It is a tough job, but were saying to them that were seeing it is a tough job and were supporting you with the best facilities that we can. And that is all the people of Greater Manchester backing our firefighters which is great to see.

[Chief Fire Officer, Dave Russel]

Were here today for the opening of our new fire station at Littleborough. It has been a great day. We have been joined by many members of the local community and school children. The station has been subject to a major overhaul as it is a significant station so a bit investment in the facilities for our staff but also improving the facilities for members of the community to use.

[Rochdale Borough Council, Littleborough Lakeside, Cllr Janet Emsley]

When I first came onto the council this station was due for closure. I am particularly pleased that we have had a refurbishment because it now means the life of this community fire station is now certain, and that is exactly what it is.

The £1.3m upgrades to the station include an increase in accommodation for staff members, new fitness facilities, a new kitchen and dining area, improved locker rooms, and state-of-the-art facilities to manage contaminants that firefighters may be exposed to at incidents.

Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham joined GMFRS Chief Fire Officer Dave Russel and Janet Emsley, Councillor for Littleborough Lakeside, at a ceremony on Monday 6 November to mark the reopening of the station.
