TRU begin using four new state of the art appliances

NEW specialised Technical Response Unit (TRU) appliances are now responding to incidents for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.

New TRU 3

This has been a 2 year project culminating in two state of the art appliances and 2 further 4x4 vehicles.

TRU staff have completed all the necessary familiarisation training and the four vehicles have been responding to incidents since June 21.

New TRU 4

They will be responding to incidents across the region enhancing our emergency response capability.  Incident types include life risk fires, collapsed structures, all RTC’s persons trapped, Rope Rescue, line rescue, trench rescue, structural stability and trapped persons.

New Hydraulic Cutting equipment has been purchased to enhance the equipment available when attending serious road traffic collisions.

The two appliances built by Rosenbauer and using an 18 tonne Volvo chassis are a first of their kind. They are located at Leigh and Ashton-Under-Lyne Community Fire Stations.

New TRU 2

A further two brand new modified Mercedes Sprinter TRU support vehicles are also available to go out alongside them to further enhance the Technical Response.

The TRU attend all life risk incidents within Greater Manchester apart from those involving fire or hazardous chemicals, but will still respond to these incidents if they are the nearest appliance.

All TRU staff are fully trained to deal with Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) incidents, this involves having additional skills in timber shoring, hot cutting and chainsaw operating.

New TRU 1

With Swift Water Rescue Technician qualifications, they attend all water incidents along with the Water Incident Unit (WIU) and utilise a Rescue sled to assist in rescues at water incidents and flooding incidents.

They also attend large animal rescues to support the WIU crews, where their skills with rope and lifting equipment is beneficial.
