Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended 36 incidents between 5:30pm on Monday, February 12 and 8am Tuesday, February 13.

 

Kitchen fire – Hindley

At 19:07 on Monday, February 12 three fire engines from Wigan, Hindley and Atherton attended a building fire on Cinnamon Avenue, Hindley.

On arrival crews found a fire involving a grill pan of a semi-detached property.

Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus, used one hose reel to extinguish the fire as well as a positive pressure ventilation fan to disperse the smoke.

Crews were in attendance for approximately thirty minutes.

 

Kitchen fire – Ashton

At 03:24 on Tuesday, February 13 three fire engines from Wigan and Hindley attended a building fire on Wigan Road, Ashton.

On arrival crews found a fire involving a cooker in the kitchen of a terraced property.

Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus used one hose reel to put out the fire. Firefighters also ventilated adjoining properties to get rid of the smoke.

Crews were on scene for approximately 45 minutes.

 

Safety advice if you find your kitchen on fire:

-       Don’t panic and don’t take risks

-       If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the fire to reach the controls

-       Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason

-       Call 999

Vehicle fire – Wigan

At 03:36 on Tuesday, February 13 three fire engines from Hindley, Atherton and a crew from Skelmersdale from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service attended a vehicle fire on St Andrews Drive, Wigan.

On arrival, crews found a fire involving two cars on a driveway which spread to the property.

Firefighters wearing four breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and a positive pressure ventilation fan to get rid of the smoke.

Crews were in attendance for one hour and thirty minutes.
