Stockport today has a population of 284,000 which makes it the third biggest district in Greater Manchester, spread over 12,560 hectares. The main population centres include Marple, Romiley, Bredbury, Cheadle Hulme, Cheadle, Reddish, Bramhall, Edgeley, the Heatons, Hazel Grove, Gatley, Heald Green, Brinnington and Offerton.
