Estates Improvements Programme

As part of its four-year Fire Plan (PDF, 1.7MB) which launched earlier this year (2021), GMFRS is investing millions into a long-term programme of improvements to update its buildings and facilities, ensuring they are fit for the future.

The improvements and refurbishments form part of our 16-year estates strategy, with all work having a heavy focus on reducing our carbon footprint while supporting the city-region’s ambition of becoming carbon neutral by 2038.

The programme is expected to take place in four phases, each taking four years, and comes as £38m was awarded by the Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester in July 2021, for the first phase of the programme, which includes huge refurbishments at our Training and Safety Centre in Bury - with a new Incident Command and Leadership Development Academy set to be complete summer 2022.
