About Volunteering

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and have very different reasons for joining the team - but there is one common factor; all our volunteers want to make a difference in helping the local communities stay safe.

Getting the most out of volunteering

Volunteering will offer you the opportunity to meet new people, undertake new challenges and experiences, as well as giving you the satisfaction of making a real contribution to the safety of Greater Manchester's communities and to boost your career through re-entering the job market.

Did you know that according to a survey carried out by TimeBank through Reed Executive, it showed that among 200 of the UK's leading businesses…

  • 73% of employers would employ a candidate with volunteering experience over one without
  • 94% of employers believe that volunteering can add to skills
  • 58% say that voluntary work experience can actually be more valuable than experience gained in paid employment
  • 94% of employees who volunteered to learn new skills had benefited either by getting their first job, improving their salary, or being promoted.
    Supporting You

When you become a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service volunteer you will be given an induction where you will receive a real insight in to the role.

An established member of the Community Action Team will buddy with you to make sure you're happy and provide you with all the help and training requirements you need to become a successful volunteer.
