Volunteers wanted
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service's Community Action Team is looking for volunteers in Trafford borough interested in helping local communities stay safe.
Whatever your skills and knowledge the most important thing is your time.
YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
We recruit and train volunteers to:
- Provide a friendly, accessible and very focal point of contact between the local communities and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS);
- Help to raise awareness of all fire and safety issues to all sectors of the community;
- To promote diversity within GMFRS;
- To assist in the development of important communication links between local fire stations, representative groups, other volunteer organisations and individuals with similar ideals in the community;
- To complement the community fire safety roles of operational firefighters.
As a volunteer with the Community Action Team you can expect to get involved with a wide variety of community safety based activities within the local community including carrying out free home fire safety checks and fitting free smoke alarms, distributing literature, highlighting issues faced by the community in relation to fire hazards such as waste reduction, assisting at events and community days, implementing campaigns and speaking to local residents about community safety.
Other duties focus on reducing the impact fire has on people's lives by helping to clean-up and make homes habitable after a fire. Volunteers may also be called upon to provide preventative activities such as helping to clean ovens and grills on behalf of elderly residents in the community or residents with limited mobility.
Each member of the Community Action Team will be given training, a uniform and will operate within a formal structure to ensure high standards of service are maintained.
