FIREFIGHTERS have rescued a man in Wigan from the top floor of a burning end terrace house.
At around 17:30 last night four fire engines from Wigan, Atherton and Hindley attended the blaze at Mesnes Park Terrace in Wigan.
The fire started on the ground floor of the three storey building, where three hose reels, a nine meter ladder and six firefighters in breathing apparatus brought the incident under control.
Two people who were in the building at the time managed to escape.
Station Manager Andy Berry explained: “Upon arrival it was evident there was a fire on the ground floor of the property. Despite this, we used a nine meter ladder to rescue an adult male who was trapped on the top floor”.
Another female casualty managed to self-rescue by breaking a window, suffering cuts to her arm.
Both were treated by the ambulance paramedics at the scene and fire crews were detained for several hours.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
