FIREFIGHTERS from Bury are excited to announce more events to the extremely successful Redeeming our Communities (ROC) Café that launched in the town last December.
Bury Fire Station will now host two evenings a month welcoming young people to the local 'hang-out' with a view to help reduce crime and antisocial behaviour in the area. Dedicated fire crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and police will be on hand to facilitate the evenings, where young people will find a host of fantastic facilities include a pool table, table football, video games and as well as a refreshment area.
Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority Councillor Fred Walker said: "The ROC café is an exciting venture that works with young people in partnership with the fire service, police and other agencies and is now available twice a month. We all recognise how beneficial this facility is and see this as an opportunity that could extend to other communities to help fight against crime."
Bury East Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Charlotte Cadden said: "Antisocial behaviour and youths hanging around are one of the main concerns that our communities tell us about. By providing facilities that young people want, and by working with the Redeeming our Communities team, we are providing a fun, safe environment for young people to meet up.
"By having regular attendance from police community support officers we are also breaking down many barriers with young people. Antisocial behaviour is one of our priorities and we will continue to work to reduce it and lessen the impact is has on peoples' lives."
The café will be open on the first and third Thursday evening of each calendar month. Next month's events will take place on Thursday, August 4 and Thursday August 18 from 6.15pm at Bury Fire Station, located on The Rock in Bury town centre.
