BURY North MP David Nuttall paid Bury Fire Station a
visit to take part in the Redeeming our Communities (ROC) Café
event.
The MP joined Station Manager Lee Coleman from Greater Manchester
Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) and Debra Green, Executive Director
of ROC.
Mr Nuttall said: "In the 10 months since the venue opened it has
clearly become established as a firm favourite with local
youngsters and it is very encouraging to see there will be even
better facilities provided once the new fire station opens at
Chamberhall."
Pete Riley, GMFRS Borough Manager for Bury said: "From conception
we always thought the ROC initiative was going to work, but could
never have imagined it would attract so much attention from such
prominent people. Of course we will now take the opportunity
to build on what we have already, and make it an even bigger
success."
The ROC Cafe is held twice a month at Bury Fire Station and local young people can go along and take part in a range of activities.
Dedicated fire crews and police will be on hand to facilitate the evenings, where young people will find a host of fantastic facilities include a pool table, table football, video games and as well as a refreshment area.
Lee Coleman, Station Manager for Bury, who regularly attends the
ROC Café events, said: "The recent visit was arranged so we could
discuss the impact of the ROC initiative in Bury since its opening
in December 2010. It was highlighted that the cafe has
contributed to 28 percent reduction in anti-social behaviour fires
and 12 percent reduction in anti-social behaviour police incidents
within the first six months of this year.
"This is a significant achievement for both GMFRS and Greater
Manchester Police and testimony to those involved with the young
people who attend the ROC Café. It really puts Bury Fire Station at
the heart of the community. The new fire station at Chamber
Hall is an exciting opportunity for the cafe as it will provide
additional diversionary activities and allow us to access a greater
number of our community."
The next event at Bury Fire Station, on The Rock, is
Thursday, November 17 from 7pm. You can find
