Weekend incidents - Sunday, March 19

Incident Date: 19 March 2017

Between 5.30pm on Friday, March 17, and 8.30am on Monday, March 20, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received 338 calls and attended 195 incidents.

Here are details of some incidents firefighters attended: 

 

Kitchen fire – Stretford

AT 1.39am on Sunday, March 19, three crews from Stretford, Sale and Salford attended a fire at a house on Nansen Close, Stretford.

On arrival crews found a tumble dryer had caught fire, with the fire spreading to the kitchen, and used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus and a fan to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Crews were in attendance for approximately an hour and a half.

 

Vehicle fire – Shaw

AT 1.48am on Sunday, March 19, two crews from Chadderton and Oldham attended a vehicle fire on Harden Hills, Shaw.

On arrival crews found that the fire had spread to a nearby property, and used a hose reel jet, a winch and lighting to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.

Firefighters were in attendance for approximately an hour.

 

Road traffic collision – Stockport

Two crews from Whitehill and Stockport were called to a road traffic collision involving a van and a car on Carrington Road, Stockport, at 5.53am on Sunday, March 19.

Crews removed one casualty from a vehicle and used trauma equipment, two neck collars, oxygen, stabilising kit and a tool kit.

Ambulance and police crews were also in attendance.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately an hour and 10 minutes.

 

Flat fire – Wigan

AT 4.24pm on Sunday, March 19, three crews from Wigan and Hindley were called to a fire at a block of flats in Logwood Place, Wigan.

On arrival crews found a fire in a communal area and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a fan to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.

Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 90 minutes

 

Road traffic collision – Bury

AT 4.36 on Sunday, March 19, two crews from Bury and Heywood and the technical response unit and major response unit the Leigh attended a road traffic collision on the M66 southbound between junctions one and two.

On arrival crews found a vehicle had crashed into a tree on the embankment, and used a hose reel, cutting equipment, a winch and a tool kit to help two casualties out from the vehicle. One casualty was assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 90 minutes.

 

Road traffic collision - Manchester

AT 6.05pm on Sunday, March 19, two crews from Ashton and Blackley and the technical response unit and major response unit the Leigh attended a road traffic collision involving two cars at the junction of Lakeside Rise and Blackley New Road.

On arrival crews helped remove one casualty from their car. The other casualty had escaped their car before crews arrived. Both were assessed by ambulance crews.

Firefighters used cutting equipment and were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes.
