Weekend incidents - Friday, August 18

BETWEEN 5.30pm on Friday, August 18, and 8.30am on Monday, August 21, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to 228 incidents.

Derelict building fire – Oldham

AT 6.35pm on Friday, August 18, four crews from Oldham, Chadderton and Hollins along with the command support unit from Rochdale were called to a fire at a derelict building on Yorkshire Street, Oldham.

On arrival crews found a fire on the ground and first floors and used three hose reels, six breathing apparatus, a ladder, thermal imaging camera and a ventilation fan to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately five hours and 45 minutes.

 

Derelict house fire – Manchester

THREE crews from Moss Side, Manchester Central and Salford were called to a fire in a derelict house on Allerton Walk, Manchester, at 7.10pm on Friday, August 18.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, a saw and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.

 

Garage fire – Flixton

AT 9.25pm on Friday, August 18, two crews from Stretford and Sale were called to a garage on fire on Moorside Road, Flixton.

Crews used two hose reels, two breathing apparatus, breaking in gear and a saw to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews would like to remind people to keep their appliances and plugs well maintained.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.

 

Garage fires – Middleton

ONE crew from Heywood was called to three garages on fire on Bowness Road, Middleton, at 10.29pm on Friday, August 18.

The crew used one hose reel, breaking in gear and a ladder to extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour.
