BETWEEN 8.30am and 5.30pm on Wednesday, September 13, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service was called to 40 incidents.

Kitchen fire – Ramsbottom

AT 10.07am on Wednesday, September 13, three crews from Ramsbottom, Bury and Rawtenstall were called to a fire at a flat on Stubbins Lane, Ramsbottom.

On arrival crews found a fire in the kitchen and used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel, specialist tools and a ventilation fan to extinguish it.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews would like to remind people to make sure all their electrical appliances are in good working order.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour and 10 minutes.

Safety advice:

If there is an electrical fire, pull the plug out, or switch off the power at the fuse box - if it is safe to do so. Sometimes this can stop the fire immediately.

Never use water on an electrical fire, and don't take any risks with your safety - get out, stay out and call 999.

 

Kitchen fire – Manchester

AT 11.16am on Wednesday, September 13, three crews from Gorton and Philips Park were called to a fire at a terraced house on Kirkham Avenue, Manchester.

On arrival crews found a fire in the kitchen and used four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish it. Crews rescued a dog from the house and gave it oxygen therapy.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Crews would like to remind people to never leave anything flammable on the hob.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately one hour and 10 minutes.

Safety advice:

If you find your kitchen on fire, don’t panic and don’t take risks.

If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the pan to reach the controls.

Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason.

Call 999.
