Building fire – Hale Barns

AT 2.43pm on September 3, 2017, two fire engines from Altrincham and Wilmslow attended a fire involving a large wooden outbuilding in Ravenwood Drive, Hale Barns.

The building was used to store timber and tools. Crew used one hose reel and two breathing apparatus to tackle the fire along with cutting away gear to dismantle the building.

Firefighters remained on the scene for around six hours to dig out the area and check for any remaining pockets of fire.

 

RTC – M62

AT 6.08pm on September 3, three fire engines from Heywood and Rochdale were joined by two Technical Response Units from Ashton at a road traffic collision with persons trapped in the M62 westbound between junctions 20 (Rochdale) and 19 (Heywood/Middleton).

Firefighters used cutting gear and stabilisation equipment and rescue one person who was trapped.

Firefighters assisted colleagues from NWAS with multiple casualties at the scene and remained there for around an hour and 40 minutes.

 

Building fire – Oldham

AT 6.39pm on Sunday, September 3, three fire engines from Oldham and Chadderton attended a fire at a first floor flat in Market Street, Shaw.

Firefighters used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the fire before clearing smoke from the flat with a positive pressure fan.

Three casualties self-rescued from the flat prior to the arrival of firefighters and were treated for smoke inhalation by NWAS.

Firefighters were at the scene for around 80 minutes and the cause of the fire is believed to be a tumble dryer in the property.

To stay safe when using a tumble dryer we recommend you follow the below points:

  • Lint is removed after every load of clothes is dried.

  • You do not cover the vent or any other opening.

  • You sweep or vacuum the areas around the dryer regularly to prevent fluff build up.

  • Do not use tumble dryers while sleeping or away from home.

 

Building fire – Manchester

AT 7.05pm on September 3, 2017, three fire engines from Manchester Central and Gorton attended a fire at a derelict house in Bostock Walk in Manchester.

Firefighters broke into the house with a door ram and used four breathing apparatus and two hose reels to tackle the fire.

Firefighters were at the scene for around 90 minutes and the cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate.

 

RTC – Saddleworth

AT 9.30pm on Sunday, September 3, two fire engines from Oldham and a Technical Response Unit and a Major Rescue Unit from Ashton attended a road traffic collision in the junction of Holmfirth Road and Hollins Lane, Saddleworth.

The were five casualties involved in the incident and two were rescued by fire service personnel.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around one hour.
