Kitchen fire – Cheadle

AT 9.49pm on Friday, September 8, three crews from Cheadle, Stockport and Wythenshawe were called to a fire at a flat at The Cloisters, Cheadle.

On arrival crews found a fire in the kitchen and used one hose reel to extinguish it. One casualty was led to safety by firefighters before being taken to hospital by ambulance crews.

Crews would like to remind people to take care while cooking and never leave it unattended.

Firefighters were on the scene for 40 minutes.

Safety advice – if your cooker catches fire:

  • Don't panic and don't take risks
  • Don't move the pan
  • Never throw water or use a water fire extinguisher on a hot fat fire
  • If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the pan to reach the controls
  • Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason
