Between 8.30am and 5:30pm on Friday, August 18, GMFRS attended 38 incidents across Greater Manchester. Read about some of them below.

RTC – M60 motorway   

AT 9:59am on Friday, August 18, three crews from Bury, Whitefield and Salford and the Technical Response Unit and Major Rescue Unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne attended a road traffic collision on the M60 motorway.

Firefighters rescued one casualty from the collision involving a HGV and a car using a weber and hearth kit. Both casualties were taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Crews were in attendance for fifty minutes.

Garage fire – Rochdale

AT 10:40am on Friday, August 18, two crews from Rochdale attended a garage fire in Holstein Avenue, Rochdale.

On arrival, firefighters isolated the electrics and used one hose reel and one thermal imaging camera to extinguish the flames.

The fire was caused by a faulty electrical extension strip which caught fire to a small quantity of paper in a plastic basket.

Firefighters carried out a safe and well check at the property. Crews were in attendance for forty minutes.

Kitchen fire - Worsley

AT 11:31am on Friday, August 18, three crews from Eccles, Stretford and Whitefield attended a kitchen fire at a commercial building in Rushton Street, Worsley.

Firefighters wearing two breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using one hose reel, one foam extinguisher and a positive pressure ventilation fan.

One casualty was treated for smoke inhalation by a trauma technician and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The cause of the fire was accidental and due to an unattended pan of food on a cooker.

Crews were in attendance for one hour and ten minutes.

Chip pan fire – Bolton

AT 12:15pm on Friday, August 18, three crews from Ramsbottom, Atherton and Whitefield attended a kitchen fire at takeaway in Nelson Square Bolton.

Firefighters wearing four breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using two hose reels, two foam extinguishers and one positive pressure ventilation fan.

The cause of the fire was accidental and due to an industrial deep fat fryer.

Crews were on the scene for one hour.

RTC – Manchester

AT 2:58pm on Friday, August 18, two crews from Altrincham and Wythenshawe along with the Technical Response Unit and Major Rescue Unit from Ashton-Under-Lyne attended a road traffic collision in Brooklands Road, Manchester.

Firefighters rescued two casualties using specialised cutting gear and vehicle stabalisation. The casualties were taken to hospital by the ambulance service.

Crews were in attendance for one hour.

Kitchen fire – Bolton

AT 4:21pm on Friday, August 18, three crews from Bolton Central, Bolton North and Bury attended a kitchen fire at a property in Redthorpe Close, Bolton.

Crews wearing two breathing apparatus used one hose reel and one positive pressure ventilation fan to extinguish the flames.

Crews were in attendance for thirty minutes.
