Tumble dryer fire – Ashton-Under-Lyne

AT 1:47pm on Monday, July 24, three crews from Ashton-Under-Lyne, Stalybridge and Hyde attended a fire involving a tumble dryer at a mid-terraced property in Pottinger Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne.

The fire was caused by a build-up of lint and fluff in the filters and the machine not being maintained properly. Firefighters used one hose reel to extinguish the flames.

A safe and well check was carried out in the property once the fire was under control. Crews were in attendance for just under twenty minutes.

To stay safe we recommend you follow the below points:

  • Lint is removed after every load of clothes is dried.
  • You do not cover the vent or any other opening.
  • You sweep or vacuum the areas around the dryer regularly to prevent fluff build up.
  • Do not use tumble dryers while sleeping or away from home.
