ON August 26, 2017, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended 49 incidents, including a fridge freezer that overheated due to lack of airflow around the appliance.

 

Garage fire – Hyde

AT twenty minutes past midnight on August 26, three fire engines from Hyde, Ashton, and Stalybridge stations were called to a garage on fire in John Street, Hyde. As the fire developed, firefighters called for two more fire engines from Gorton fire station and a hydraulic platform from Whitehill station. Crews were on the scene for over 11 hours and put out the fire using three main jets and breathing apparatus.

 

Garden extension fire – Manchester

JUST before 2.20am on August 26, three fire engines from Philips Park and Manchester Central fire stations were sent to a house fire in Winfield Drive, Manchester. Firefighters used three hoses to put out the fire involving a garden extension and a fence. Crews were on the scene for an hour and ten minutes.

 

Container fire – Oldham

JUST before 8pm on August 26, two fire engines from Oldham attended a fire involving three cylinders in a container on Blackshaw Lane, Royton. Firefighters put out the fire and were on the scene for two and a half hours.

 

Fridge-freezer fire – Oldham

AT 10.07pm on August 26, three fire engines from Hollins, Chadderton and Ashton stations attended a fire involving a fridge-freezer in a house on Rembrandt Walk, Oldham. Crews used breathing apparatus, breaking-in gear, hoses and fans to put out the fire. Firefighteres were on the scene for one and a half hours.

The fridge freezer had overheated due to lack of airflow around the appliance.
