FIREFIGHTERS from across Manchester were called to a fire in Rogue Artist Studios in Chapeltown Street at 12.38am (Saturday, February 11).

Crew were alerted to the fire in the six storey building, in the city's Northern Quarter, when smoke and flames were visible from the first floor.

At its peak, about 25 firefighters from different stations tackled the blaze from Manchester Central, Gorton, Ashton under Lyne, Hyde and Moss Side.

Station Manager Steve Forster who was at the incident said: “The fire started on the first floor of an old complex mill building, luckily sprinklers had been activated before firefighters arrived which helped to keep the fire under control.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus carried out a full building search to make sure that there was nobody inside.

“Our fire investigation team will be working with Greater Manchester Police to see what started the fire and we will be working with our partners over the coming days with the local community.”

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
