Derelict building fire – Eccles

AT 6.10am six crews from Eccles, Manchester Central, Stretford, Hyde and Agecroft along with an aerial platform from Manchester Central and the command support unit from Hyde were called to a fire in a derelict commercial building on Old Wellington Road, Eccles.

On arrival crews found a fire on the first floor and are using two jets, two breathing apparatus, specialist tools and an aerial platform to extinguish it.

Station Manager Patrick Johnson said: “The fire is under control but as there is a lot of smoke in the area please keep your doors and windows closed.

“If you are driving in the area please avoid Old Wellington Road.”

Update: 8.40am

Crews gained access to the building and used a hose reel and a specialist fan to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were on the scene for approximately two hours and 15 minutes.
