Cooking fire – Manchester
AT 11.06pm on August 9, 2017, one fire engines from Moss Side and two fire engines from Salford were mobilised to a persons reported fire in Garthorne Close, Manchester.
The fire involved a pan of food that had been left unattended.
One casualty was led to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and one hose reel was used to tackle the fire.
Crew cleared smoke from the house with a positive pressure fan and remained at the scene for around one hour and 40 minutes.
Firefighters wish to remind people of the dangers of becoming distracted when cooking.

take extra care when cooking with hot oil and don't leave children alone in the kitchen when the hob or oven is on
If your pan catches fire:
Don't panic and don't take risks
Don't move the pan
Never throw water or use a water fire extinguisher on a hot fat fire
If it's safe to do so - turn off the heat, but never lean over the pan to reach the controls
Leave the kitchen, close the door behind you, tell everyone else in the home to get out and don't go back inside for any reason
