70-year-old woman fights linen cupboard fire

FIREFIGHTERS dealt with a fire in a linen cupboard at a house in Pemberton at the weekend.

Two crews from Wigan Fire Station were called to the blaze at a house on Balmoral Road at 12.40am on Sunday, February 5.

A 70-year-old woman who lives in the house extinguished the blaze in her linen cupboard with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived.

The woman was given oxygen by firefighters as she was suffering from the effects of smoke and she was also checked over by paramedics.

An electrical fault had caused the blaze.

Firefighters carried out a Home Safety Check before they left.
