Borough: Manchester

Incident Date: 04 March 2015

FIREFIGHTERS have worked with officers from Greater Manchester Police to resolve an incident at the University of Manchester on Sackville Street.

A report of a chemical reaction was reported to North West Fire Control which prompted crew to attend the Paper Science Building Street just before 11.30am on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

Station Manager, Ian Duckworth, said: “Specialist officers from GMFRS have worked with police colleagues and investigated a reaction which caused chemicals to potentially become explosive.

“The incident was quickly brought under control and a cordon was put in place resulting in a number of road closures in the area.”

The incident has now been resolved and all roads in the area have now been re-opened.
