Teens in hospital following bed fire

Borough: Salford

Incident Date: 31 January 2012

TWO teenagers have been taken to hospital after a bed caught fire in Pendleton.

Firefighters were called to a blaze at apartments on Pendleton Way at 1.15am on Tuesday, January 31.

Two crews from Salford Fire Station attended and found there had been a fire involving a mattress and a headboard but it was out by the time they arrived.

An 18-year-old man was suffering from the effects of smoke and a 19-year-old woman suffering from the effects of smoke and burns.

The woman had tackled the fire herself with water.

It is thought the couple had been playing with matches and an aerosol can.

Both were taken to hospital by ambulance.

Firefighters have carried out a Home Safety Check at the flat following the fire.
