Firefighters called to tyre blaze in Oldham

FIREFIGHTERS have now left the scene of the fire in Oldham that is believed to have started accidentally.

The blaze ripped through the single storey garage causing the roof to collapse, with damage also being caused to a number of vehicles, tools and tyres.

The fire is thought to have started accidentally and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.


FIREFIGHTERS were called upon after a fire broke out at a commercial property in Oldham.

North West Fire Control received several calls shortly before 12pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 to report the fire on Heron Street.

At the height of the blaze around 20 firefighters tackled the fire that involved a single storey garage and a number of tyres.

Station Manager Pete Lamb said: “Firefighters brought the blaze under control using an aerial appliance, a high pressure lance and water jets. 

“Crew also surrounded the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby commercial properties.

“Please can people in the area keep their windows and doors closed while we deal with the fire and if possible stay inside themselves.”

Greater Manchester Police is also in attendance and a small number of roads are closed while the incident is dealt with.
