FIREFIGHTERS rescued a man after he got into difficulties on the roof of his house on Rochdale Road, Royton.
Two fire engines from Chadderton and Rochdale stations attended and when they arrived, they were met with a man who was clinging to his chimney pot.
Crew were sent to the incident at 1.45pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 after reports of a man stuck on the top of a roof.
The 44-year-old had been trying to fix a fault with his satellite dish when he became overcome with the height and couldn't get himself down.
Firefighters quickly rescued the man using a ladder and reassured him during the rescue.
Crew Manager Dave Barnett said: "We were aware the man was worried whilst on the roof, he had been working on the satellite dish and had become a bit shaken so was unable to move.
"It was important that we assisted him quickly as there were iron railings surrounding the property that were posing as a risk should he have fallen.
"We understand people do like to carry repairs on their homes, but if you do, please make sure you have the correct safety gear, the right ladders and scaffolding if you're going to be up there for any amount of time. Try not to work on roofs alone."
