Eight cars were deliberately set alight in the Stockport area last night.
A crew in Offerton were called to a Ford Transit van which was on fire on Guildford Close at 00.43am. Very close to houses, crews put the fire out and alerted police.
At 00.59am, two crews from Stockport were called to Charles Street in the Hillgate area of the town, where six vehicles on the roadway were alight.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used six hose reels to tackle the fires. Crews called for the assistance of Council gritters to grit the length of Charles Street because run off water was freezing.
Around half of the cars were severely damaged. Fire Investigation teams are this morning working with the police, as crews carry out Home Safety Checks in the area.
An hour later, at 01.59am a crew from Offerton were called to Malham Court where two cars in a car park had been deliberately set on fire.
