A WORKING smoke alarm has saved the life of an elderly lady after a fire broke out in her flat on Park Road, Timperley.
Crew from Sale, Stretford and Wythenshawe stations received a person’s reported call via North West Fire Control at 10.23am this morning (Tuesday, December 16, 2014).
On arrival firefighters were met with a well-developed fire that had started in the bedroom of a ground floor flat at Mayfair Court.
The occupant, a 94-year-old lady, had managed to escape the smoke and flames - all because she had a working smoke alarm which had alerted her to the danger in plenty of time.
Group Manager, Ben Levy, said: “This lady was very lucky. Had she not had a working smoke alarm it could have resulted in a very serious incident.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and worked very hard to control and extinguish the fire preventing spreading.
“We cannot stress enough the importance of having a working smoke alarm at home. If you don’t, please get one fitted by us in time for Christmas so you can enjoy a safe festive period.”
