Firefighters tackle house fire

Borough: Salford

Incident Date: 12 November 2014

FIREFIGHTERS have spent the afternoon tackling a large fire in a semi-detached house on Roscoe Road, Irlam.

Crew from Irlam, Eccles and Hyde stations were sent to the incident at 4.35pm (Wednesday, November 12, 2014) after reports of smoke was seen coming from the property.

On arrival firefighters were met with a well-developed fire which had started in a bedroom on the first floor of the house.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using three hose reels, a covering jet and a fan.

Group Manager Brian Highlands, said: “There was a lot of smoke coming from the building on arrival and it was clear the property was well alight.  Due to the ferocity of the fire we had to assess the scene fully and make sure tactical plan was in place whilst fighting the fire.

“The crews worked extremely hard to get the fire under control and have prevented it spreading to the neighbouring house.”

The house was empty at the time of the fire and the cause is currently being investigated.
