Firefighters treat elderly woman who took ill

Borough: Tameside

Incident Date: 09 February 2012

FIREFIGHTERS helped an elderly woman who had taken ill after an automatic fire alarm led them to her home.

Crews from Hyde and Stalybridge fire stations were called out to the house in Hyde at 7.20pm on Thursday, February 9.

The automatic fire alarm had sounded because an 83-year-old woman had burned her toast.

There was no fire when the firefighters arrived but concerned for her welfare, the firefighters gave the woman oxygen and called an ambulance.

She was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of an underlying health problem and later discharged.

The crews carried out a Home Safety Check at the woman's house.
