Four cars collide in Wigan

Borough: Wigan

Incident Date: 02 February 2012

FIREFIGHTERS have rescued two women from cars following a collision in Wigan.

Crews from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were called to the incident outside Wigan Infirmary at around 10.50am today (February 2).

The incident involved four cars which had collided and reports indicated that several people were trapped inside separate vehicles.

Two women, aged 52 and 43, were freed from vehicles by firefighters and treated at the scene by trauma technicians before being taken to hospital with suspected neck and spinal injuries.

A 20-year-old woman had managed to free herself from one of the cars before the fire service arrived and she too was taken to hospital.

Three other people, two men and a woman, escaped injury and declined hospital treatment.

Fire crews used cutting gear and spine boards to release the women from the cars.
