STAY SAFE

Bonfire night 2005

bonfire night poster 2005 jpgBetween 23rd October and 8th November 2004 there were 11 injuries involving fireworks in Greater Manchester and 88 fires started due to fireworks either being misused or going astray. As a result, we launched a hard-hitting campaign in a bid to drive down firework related accidents during the 2005 Bonfire period.

Targeting young teenagers who are the most 'at risk' group from firework injuries, we produced billboard posters (pictured) showing a young boy who had been badly disfigured after misusing fireworks*. We also ran a radio advert in the Manchester area which vidly described what it is like to be hit by a firework.

Press coverage was also used to highlight that the fact that our statistics show that you are far safer at a properly organised fireworks display than lighting them yourself at your own bonfire party or playing with them in the street.

* The boy shown on the poster is the son of a Fire Officer and the injury shown was created using make-up.
