Autumn/winter safety
Never use matches as an alterative light source
During the colder months, bad weather can sometimes cause a cut in electricity to homes. Don’t panic - be prepared and stay safe.
- In the event of a power failure, use battery operated lights or torches as an alternative light source. If you must use candles, be careful and never leave them unattended.
- If you use a gas or paraffin lamp make sure it is working properly and used in a well ventilated area.
- NEVER position lights or bulbs near curtains and other fabrics.
- Sometimes telephones are affected by power cuts. Make sure you still have access to your mobile phone if this happens so you can call the emergency services if necessary.
- NEVER use matches or lighters as an alternative light or heat source in the event of a power cut.
