On 5th April 2008 at 11:29 firefighters were called to a fire at John Bradshaw and Sons, Marshall Stevens Way, off Westinghouse Road, Trafford Park.
When they arrived they found an established and rapidly developing fire in the upper levels of the building, a two storey removals and storage warehouse, approximately 70m x 70m.
At the height of the incident sixty firefighters used 10 fire engines and three aeriel appliances to control the fire and contain it within the original building. To control the fire spread they used three aeriel monitors, four ground monitors and two hand held jets, using water from a large water main on Westinghouse Road and also pumping water from the nearby Bridgewater Canal.
The fire spread rapidly through the building, fanned by strong winds, and produced a plume of smoke visible for many miles, affecting all of the building and causing its partial collapse. The fire was contained and prevented from spreading to adjacent industrial units, which included a chemical storage unit.
