Gas explosion at flat in Wigan - November 2008
At 21:20hrs on Saturday 29th November Firefighters were mobilised to reports of an explosion at Worsley Mesnes in Wigan. On arrival, Fire Crews, Police and Ambulance were all faced with a partially collapsed three storey block of flats. The first and second floors had collapsed onto the ground floor and there was a well established fire.

Around 36 casualties had been evacuated from the building and two casualties, both male, aged 26 and 43, were taken to hospital suffering from burns.
After extinguishing the blaze, search and rescue teams were deployed to search the scene for further casualties. At approx 0530hrs on Sunday 30th November, the teams reported that no further casualties had been located.
A joint investigation into the cause of the incident is underway between Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Team and the Police.
