Burnage building site blaze

Forty firefighters tackled this blaze in a building under construction in Burnage on 23rd March 2008.
123456At 2224 firefighters were called to the report of a fire in a building under construction on Burnage Lane, Burnage. The fire was visible for a great distance and fire service control operators received over one hundred calls to the incident.
When they arrived they found a well developed fire in a development of apartments under construction, approximately 40metres by 60 metres. At the height of the incident firefighters used eight fire engines, two aeriel appliances and a hose laying lorry to bring the fire under control, fighting the fire with three monitors and three jets.
The fire was contained to the original building and prevented from spreading to an adjacent supermarket, the fire did affect an adjacent electrical substation. A number of roads were temporarily closed as a consequence of the incident, fire fighters are likely to remain at the scene for some time damping down the fire.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is being undertaken by specialist fire investigation officers working in conjunction with officers from Greater Manchester Police.
