  • Fire Service scoops two prestigious PR awards - 21 November 2008
    Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has been honoured with two awards by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) for this website and also its internal publication, In the Loop.

  • Busiest night of the year for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service - 06 November 2008
    The night of the 5th November is traditionally the busiest of the year for the Fire and Rescue Service* and this year proved no exception – with the control room receiving 1121 emergency calls and fire service personnel attending 628 ** incidents.

  • “Be safe, not sorry” have a safe and happy Bonfire night. - 04 November 2008
    “Have a happy and safe bonfire night with your family; attend an organised bonfire or fireworks display this 5th of November” is the message being put out by County Fire Officer Barry Dixon.

  • Northwest has highest incidence of firework injuries - 24 October 2008
    Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has embarked on the second stage of it’s 2008 Firework Safety Campaign by highlighting the Northwest as the region with the worst record of firework injuries. Nationally there were 991 firework injuries reported, shockingly 179(18%) of these occured in the Northwest.

  • Firework thrown through door of Chip Shop - 23 October 2008
    At 19:08 hrs on the 21st October 2008 firefighters were called to a chip shop on Silverdale Street, Openshaw – where a firework had been thrown into the shop.
