Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service has formed a new Prince’s Trust Team at Wythenshawe Fire Station for the first time.

The official opening of the scheme was made by the Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor Glynn Evans at the Brownley Road station on the 27th February 08 and was attended by the new team members, Prince’s Trust staff, Fire service officers, Wythenshawe Firefighters and other distinguished guests from partner agencies. A special celebrity guest, Michael Raynes of Stockport County F.C attended to give his support to the scheme.

The 12 week personal development course helps 16-25 year olds, the majority unemployed, to develop confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community. The elements of the course will be delivered through partners such as colleges and the Fire Service and includes a community-based project.  Ex-offenders/offenders and care leavers have been recruited onto the course, helping to support these two target groups.

The scheme will be a valuable contribution to the young people of Wythenshawe as it will enable them to develop their skills in a variety of ways. On completion of the intensive course, the team members are often inspired to enrol for further education programmes or pursue career prospects.
