09 April 2008
The newest firefighters in the county are being set a new challenge in support of The Fire Fighters Charity and Operation Florian, which provides aid to fire services in the poorer developing countries.
The 45 trainee firefighters are five weeks into an intensive 15-week initial training course and the team building charity event forms part of the course.
The participants will be set a number of practical and mental challenges including raft and canoe building to cross a lake, orienteering between checkpoints, equipment gathering and rope work to access high ground/towers.
The various elements of the challenge will culminate in the transportation of 999 litres of water over different terrain and obstacles in 9hrs 9mins and 9 seconds.
The venue for this exciting event is the Anderton Centre, New road, Anderton, Chorley, Lancs, PR6 9HG on Saturday 12th April 08 and will be started by Tony Proctor the Deputy County Fire Officer at 0900hrs.
