This weekend promises to be a treat for those who keep putting off washing the car, as the Fire Services National Benevolent Fund’s (FSNBF) National Car Wash 2008 rolls into Greater Manchester.
The event taking place on Saturday 8th March 2008 will also be an opportunity for people to have a chat about their personal fire safety with the Firefighters, whilst their car is being given a gleaming polish. The day will be a chance to get involved with a genuinely important cause, brush up on your home fire safety and drive away with a spotlessly clean car.

Firefighters at Broughton fire station will also be hosting the celebrity car 'Chitty Chitty Bang Bang' (© MGM) – and as part of the days fundraising activities will be raffling the prize of a ride in the famous car, or you can have your picture taken with it!
Of course, there is a very serious reason as to why this event is taking place at Fire Stations across the UK; to raise much needed funds for the FSNBF – the UK’s Fire Charity. In return for cleaning your car, firefighters will be asking for a small donation in order to support the FSNBF.
County Fire Officer Barry Dixon said, “The National Car Wash Day is a great opportunity for us to raise money for a worthwhile cause which has benefited many firefighters and their families over the years. For just one day we hope to see thousands of gleaming cars on the streets of Greater Manchester.”
So if you have a dirty car and can’t be bothered cleaning it then why not take it to a fire station near you and let a firefighter do it for you!
