Audley Harrison trains at Moss Side Fire Station before crucial fight
02 September 2008
Heavyweight star Audley Harrison has set up his final training camp at Moss Side Fire Station ahead of his big fight against George Arias this Saturday.
Harrison, the 2000 Olympic Champion, faces Brazilian hitman Arias at the M.E.N Arena in the most crucial fight of his career.
This is a must win fight for Harrison as he embarks on his last assault at a world title.
And where better to add that extra toughness than with the fearless Moss Side Firefighters who risk their lives everyday in the line of duty.
Audley’s training camp will be using a gym, thought to be the first in the UK, set up by firefighters for the young people of Moss Side.
The gym is designed to engage with young people, providing a safe and structured environment to learn the skills of boxing as well as educating them on fire safety issues, the dangers of fire setting and some of the dangers that all the community face when firefighters are attacked.
Since opening, the gym has been visited and supported by a number of the country's top boxers including Amir Khan, Ricky Hatton, David Haye and Jamie Moore and is a testament to the hard work of the firefighters in providing a dedicated boxing facility for the young people of Moss Side.
