On August 25th 2007, 60 Fire Service volunteers including three operational crews, a float and two fire engines participated in  Manchester Pride.

Manchester Pride is the city's annual festival celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender life and is attended by more than 250,000 people. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service takes part in the event each year to promote fire safety messages to the local community.

'Smoking - definitely not groovy'
This year, we chose a 60s theme - 'smoking - definitely not groovy' to get across a fire safety message about the dangers of cigarettes. A decorated float featured dancers who entertained to a specially commissioned music mix of 'Help' by The Beatles and 'Fire Brigade' by The Move.

The float, fire engines and volunteers followed a route from Liverpool Road at Castlefield to Whitworth Street taking in Deansgate, Cross Street and Princess Street. Colleagues from Cheshire Fire Service, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service joined us for the city's single largest annual community event.
