Two school children have each won a bike in a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s Eco-poster competition.

The competition, which ran on The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service website, was held in support of World Environment Day (5 June 2008).

Rumina Khatun, aged 8, from Heybrook Primary School, Rochdale and Jay Cunliffe, aged 11, from Crumpsall Lane Primary School, Crumpsall were chosen as winners from 314 entries.

Rumina and Jay were presented with their bikes on Friday 18th July at Heywood Fire Station by Councillor Paul Shannon, Chairman of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority as well as Rochdale Councillors Peter Rush and Peter Clegg.

Councillor Shannon said, “The standard of entries to our web based competition was very high.  We had a fantastic response with entries from 13 local schools as well as individual entries.  The two winners represented the best in their particular age categories.  The competition was held to reinforce the message to ‘reduce, reuse, and recycle’ and to highlight the impact every person has on the environment”.
